Dazzling Legs

Now that the big yellow thing is in the sky, it is tempting to come out of my winter roubaix plumage and venture out in shorts alone.

This however brings the problem of dazzling oncoming motorists and frightening small children with the lilly-whiteness of my legs as they frantically spin in the midday sun.

Are there any products (other than creosote or gravy-browning) that can be recommended to take the edge off, without going too far?

no matter how much i ride in this country only the tops of my legs at the front get tanned. Your best bet is to take a holiday or get some tanning stuff.
  • I went out yesterday with shorts for the first time as it was lovely and sunny. Within 1 mile they were bright red from the wind and coldness. So they weren't milk bottle white any more

Well i suppose if it comes to push a set of 20 denier in champagne will take the edge off,or do as Fungus did and go out when it's windy and wait for the corned beef look.

'a friend' uses Johnson Holiday Skin moisturiser with tanning element. 'from what he says' it could be just the trick.

As you get older exposed skin starts to simply stay permanently brown. Arms in particular.

With white hands and shoulders. The girls love it; they associate it with stamina.

Well, they are certainly wrong there, but I won't say anything if that's what they want to think. I'm gonna ask my wife about that. She knows everything.

I've heard them talking in the bars... "Look at the cute guy with really white hands. Sh!t his shoulders are white as well... OMG me first! Me first"

Then I wake up and I've spilled Jim Beam on my bedsheets.

some of us do have advantage location-wise - it tipped the low 40's in Abu Dhabi last week tan is no problem, but showing any bare flesh in the UK is a problem - its just too bloody cold when you go back!

cycling home the other evening I noticed a tan line on my girlfriends leg from a few hours cycling in the sun on Sunday! I know someone who did the Milan/San Remo sportive and used fake tan as he wasn't going to Italy with white legs

Get 'em out ya light weights, been in shorts and short sleeved jersey since the sun came out. To precious to waste. I use a lightweight waterproof in the mornings if it's chilly but at the top of the second hill that always gets stuffed in my jersey pocket, happy days :D

But REAL MEN aren't allowed to use a moisturizer. In fact WE wouldn't even consider it.

Was in highland Perthshire yesterday, thought I'd go out for a ride, only brought jersey & shorts as "it's bound to warm up when the sun comes up".
So I don't know about brown, but my legs certainly weren't white when I got back 40-odd miles later - after 2+hours of cycling through the frosty landscape, they were a very strange purplish colour.

It's a well-known tradition in cycling that you simply don't wear shorts when there's an 'R' in the month - mind you, first race tomorrow and forecast is clear skies and sunshine! Gonna get mullered, but nice weather might make it less painful.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Johnson summer sun cream. My legs look lovely now, and I did a PB up Hollingbourne hill today, I'm sure having sun kissed freshly shaved legs did the trick.
