Help save my shin

My shin had in inpromptue meeting with my large chainring while out at the weekend and took a beating. Ideally I want to swap it out for an SLX double but seen as my Stylo triple is pretty new I would rather do this when its worn out. My question is, is there anything I can get (like a bash guard) that will fit over the large chain ring and protect my leg should this happen again?

Plenty of guys wear shin pads. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

I've got full Adidas Predator pads with Ankle support. £7 from sports direct without being clumsy like 'proper' DH/FR sets0

you could take off your big ring and replace it with a normal bash ring, as these are easier to get hold of and not so pricey0

@ koiler, yes just like that thanks. Although at £54 I might as well buy an SLX double and sell the stylo.
@ TBC, I have 661 race lights but this was more for local blasting etc as I dont wanna look like an absolute plank with shorts & shinnies on. Thanks anyway though.
@ JamesBrckmn, may go with this in the short term but was looking for the best of both worlds i suppose. Will have a hunt for a cheaper version of what Koiler expected.0 -
I would concern yourself more with why you hit the chainring.
cure the problem not symptoms
assuming you lost grip on pedals?
What pedals/shoes do you ride with? Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -
Cavegiant is right. But, still, consider losing the big ring. For your next few rides think about how often you use the absolute top 3 gears on your bike- those are the only ones you lose compared to a 36T middle ring, because there's so much overlap.Uncompromising extremist0

You do get big ring bash gaurds yes like this one

but as others have said, your best option would probably be, ditch the big ring0 -
Standard wellgo flats at the moment with flat sole trainers. I am gona buy a pair of MG1's but again am waiting for the stock wellgo's to die first. Suppose the extra pins on the MG1's would help grip and have been looking at some proper flat shoes too.0

while you're waiting for them to die, you could always get something similar to these

if you need more grip. ive got some and cant recommend them enough. almost too much grip. my foot wont move on the pedal (sometimes, even when i want it to)
and then you'll be able to transfer them over to the Mg1s (i think)0 -
My plan for when the pins wear on the Wellgos is to buy threaded rod (I assume it's available in the size) and effectively make longer pins. I was impressed with the grip on my brother's Halfords pedals which have appreciably longer pins. Or use screws and cut the heads off.0
