What is the largest tooth chainring you can put on a compact chainset?
I want to convert my CX bike to a TT bike (as best as it can be) for some local summer 10's but only have a 50t outter chainring atm.

I think its 52, but you'd probably want to put a 36 inner if you went to 52 otherwise the jump from big to small ring would have you shifting several sprockets on the back.More problems but still living....0

but the main constraints are that the front mech will struggle with a difference between the two rings of anything much more than 16t and if you have a braze-on mech then it might not go up far enough to handle a huge ringFacts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
maddogg - are you sure I can get a 61 even on a compact chainset? If so excellent. I shouldnt need the smaller ring so shifting shouldnt be an issue.0
