Changing rims - easy or hard?

I am thinking of changing the rims on my bike. There's nothing wrong with the current rims (which I've had on for 3 years), it's just I've always fancied white ones!
Anyhow, I was just wondering if this is an easy job to undertake? Is it simply a case of removing the rim tape, unscrewing the nipples, swapping the rim, and then putting back together? Are there any particular tools I would need? (I have tyre levers, but no spoke wrench).
My current wheelset consists of Hope Pro II hubs, and DT Swiss rims (XR4.2D) and spokes. I was thinking of getting the white version of the XR4.2D rim (if I can find it anywhere), as it's served me well, and I know my spokes will fit! Can anyone recommend any other possible options?
Thanks in advance.

I should add that I use my bike for XC/trail riding.0

You need exactly the same rim ERD.
You need to slowly unbuild the wheel, then do the swap, retension, true and dish.
So not as easy as it seems.0 -
have a read of the wheel building pages on Sheldons site.
If the rims are the same then yes you can get away with the same spokes."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks guys - it looks more complicated than I thought. Perhaps it would be better to buy the rims and get my LBS to fit them!0

I've managed to find white XR4.2D rims at SJS cycles. Has anyone dealt with these people before? Are they any good?
Cheers.0 -
They are fine.
Factor in 20 pound per wheel for the swap.
Is it worth it?!!!0 -
I know - I was thinking that. Two rims = £120, plus the money to get them fitted... I could almost get a pair of brand new Hope Pro II wheels from CRC for that price!  :shock:0

you could powdercoat them?0
