Race Tyres - Which is the best Clincher Race Tyre?

  • new tyres always seem to ride so much better than old. Whether it's all in the mind or not I don't know, but if you compare a new tyre of one type to an old tyre of a different type, it's not very scientific. My rcent experience has been with michelin and conti top end clinchers, and my impression is conti are better in every way.

Vittoria Open Corsa EVO II. I rode GP4000s for a couple of years and only recently switched to the Vittoria's. To me they just feel so much better. It's hard to quantify but I'm sure I'm going a lot faster on them too.

I didn't put "Vittoria" tyres down as their rather heavy compaired to some race tyres.

Vittoria make some of the lightest tyres available - I race on Vittoria Dia Pro lites which are 170 g each - they're lighter than any of the tyres you've just mentioned.

And the standard Diamantes 190-195g (which Matt H just mentioned) are excellent summer training tyres - (and they're as light as Pro Race 3's).

Yes, done 150 miles on mine and as yet not found a single weakness. Ok, so they're not as fast as Veloflex Records but if you're serious about TT's then I guess you'll have them as well. And the Panaracers will last far longer than those out-and-out race tyres. Don't buy open tubulars such as Open Corsas/Records and stack miles on them, either buy them and race them or don't buy them.

If only the Panaracers came with an orange sidewall...............
