Tyre to replace Nobby Nic

Run 2.1 NN's front and back for last 3 months and just noticed that the rear tyre sidewalls are badly worn with bare fibres sticking out and it has started to bulge in one area.
Very very dissapointed as I was loving them until now, but I ride XC in the Peaks so they do get bashed DH on rocks a fair bit.
So looking for a new harder wearing rear tyre, any suggestions?
Money is pretty tight so am looking not spend as much as the NN cost and would like it to pair up well with the 2.1 NN still on the front

You could always go for 2.25 Snakeskin Nics. Over 100g more than the 2.1s is a bitter pill to swallow but they are very tough. Or maybe a Snakeskin Ralph?0

If you do decide to replace the NNs at some point, I'd go for the Snakeskin version. Much tougher. I've got the Fat Albert Snakeskin version fitted to the 456 and they are great.
What sort of price are you looking at for your new tyre then?0 -
specialized the captain control are good, dual compound- 60/70a, 2.0 or 2.2 and only £20 each!0

I would find it hard to spend £40 on another Nobby Nic, snakeskin or not after this.
Also I would Ideally not want to spend more than £25...
Maxxis Ignitor seem okay, I read they are thin so the 2.35 might look more like a 2.1?

Kenda Nevegal seem good at this price?

Maxxis High Roller single ply 2.35 60a is a tough tyre and lasts quite well.
I use one on the back with a minion SP 2.35 60a on the front and it is great although I think I shall try a minion on the back when it wears out0 -
Like the sound of the Minion, I might give the DHF 60a version a go on the back http://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/product/108043.html

btw, you do realise that dhf means it's designed to go on the front, not the back0

Yes but reading up and many people run DHF front and back, better grip but slighty higher rolling resistance.
The DHF was also rated Classic tyre winner in Aprils Mountain Biking mag, I assume they used them front and back in the test.Mongoose Tyax Super 2008 with just a few upgrades...0 -
yeah, just run the Minion backwards on the back and it should be fine.
I'm gonna do this when my high roller wears out, put the current on the back and get a new one for the front0
