Shifter Barrel Adjuster - repair work required

Bought a cheap Specialized Allez Sport frame off fleabay recently and whilst it appears mostly in good order, one of the barrel adjusters was rusted solid. A bit of PTFE, grease did not penetrate and a 'gentle' twist with pliers resulted in the barrel shearing completely off.

I have tried gently to drill out the adjust with little success.

Any ideas?

Can I get the front deraileur indexed without it? Can I make up something to work? Is there a solution I have not considered?

I dont think I've ever needed to adjust my front mech using the cable adjuster. I reckon you'll be fine as is.

Thanks very much - as a slight aside, do you know how I can get back the 2 hours sunny riding I missed on Saturday trying to fix this thing ...
