Hi

Had a quick search but seems to be far too many topics on 705 to find the answer.

My mate has a 705 but doesn't know how to get gpx files onto the device. There were a few sportives that start near where we live so I saved the gpx files from their sites and now we plan to use these as training.

How do I copy the gpx file to his Garmin. We will do this from my PC so can I just connect this up as a USB device and drag the file over or do I need to install software \ drivers etc to do this.

Once we have the gpx file on the device how we we start to follow it as when we load the route up we won't be at the start point, I assume it won't work out how we get to the start point of the gpx file automatically

http://frank.kinlan.co.uk/?page_id=1212 will help getting you started.

Basically two ways to get the gpx over is either 'send to device' from a piece of Garmin software either Training Centre or MapSource (you don't mention if your mate has the maps on card or DVD so he may or may not have either of these already) or when you plug the device in you'll see it pop up as a drive letter, dump your routes into the Garmin folder on that drive letter.

You can ride to get to the start of the route or you can join the route at any point along it's length and once on it, it will start to prompt you with directions. However and this is important observe the directionality of the route, if you attempt to go the wrong way around the route it will keep telling you you've got to the end and delete the rest of the route.

thanks for the info. Not sure what maps he has but when he turned it onto map mode on a ride the other day it picked up where we were ok the roads so hopefully that will be enough.

Anyway thanks for the info hopefully some sportive routes to get some really good training in, just a shame the feed stops won't be there :D

Download the file to your PC then upload it to the Garmin and into the GPX folder for the Garmin to guide you when out on the road.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    brilliant.

save to either 705 or pc as Garmin GPX track for turn by turn instructions.

tried a whole bunch of route mapping sites but I think this is the best by far.
