Having a chat with my brother today and we got on to the topic of bikes from our childhood days. All the usual suspects were covered, Grifters, Choppers, various BMXs

Then we remembered this gem which the kid next door had

vektar.jpg

That, for those too young to remember, was the Raleigh Vektar complete with onboard computer.

Can your bike do this?

Bet you want one now.

I remember them - a kid at school had one when I had a lowly Raleigh Commando, I was soooooooooo jealous!

Guessing everyone who posts on this thread will be aged 35-40...

dont think one of these ever made it to the village I grew up in (possible that I'm too old to have seen this  ) ; we had to make to with single speeds which we'd made up from parts we salvaged from the local tip.

I recall the kids at the top of the road having grifters and choppes though.

They were anyway as they weighed about half a tonne, Luckily the gears on mine worked alright most of the time, I also had a tomahawk too, but I used to pinch my sister busgie for pulling wheelies on as it was perfect for them!
  • Man, that was the bike I always wanted but never got :(
  • That takes me back

I had a Raleigh Commando too.
    Giant Escape M1....
    Penny Farthing
    Unicycle
    The bike the Goodies rode
    Pogo Stick
Donkey on Roller skates.......OK I'm lying, but I am down to one bike right now and I feel bad about it,

    Grifter boy here too.

I used to be able to get to quite a speed on it and I remember joining some BMX kids doing a small but vicious jump in the local park, I managed to go so high in the air I spun right round and landed on my back wth what must've been half a ton of bike on top of me. I was so winded I though I was going to die.
