And now I'm going to start commuting. I need a load of stuff to get my bike ridable, but I don't want to throw loads of money at it.
I need...
New brakes
A new cassette
A new chain
2 X Inner tubes
2 X tyres
So, will this all do or is any of it dogsh*t?

For the chain cassette I'll just get any cheap Shimano/SRAM crap.
What tyres? It'll be all road, so I want more road going mountain bike tyres.

Will do fine if you have the right mounts and wheels for V brakes.
Make sure the drivetrain parts match for speed.0 -

What bike are you upgrading? Make and model, and approx year would be useful. Maybe pictures if you can.
Tyrewise, Continental Gatorskins are my choice of commuting tyre, mainly for p*ture protection and a pretty grippy and smooth ride: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Conti ... 360021704/ No good offroad, but it sounds like that would be OK.Bike/Train commuter: Brompton S2L - "Machete"
12mile each way commuter: '11 Boardman CX with guards and rack
For fun: '11 Wilier La Triestina
SS: '07 Kona Smoke with yellow bits0
