hi all
just cant seem to stop getting rear punctures!!
i run a spesh the captain rear tyre 26 x 2.00 60tpi wire bead xc race compound 70sA
i have anything between 25 to 35 psi ( punctures at all pressures )
i generally ride my local mountain which is a varied terrain rocks/mud/clay/chippings and grass i go with my mate who has yet to have 1 puncture in the last 3 mths i have had 6
the 1 common thing is the punctures are very difficult to find as they are like very small pinholes at any point in the tube!!
please help

iam 12st 7lbs if it helps and a complete novice

cheers paul

Try the tyres at 40 - 45psi. I run mines at 40 and rarely get any punctures, except the odd thorn.

I used to suffer the same curse. Got at least 2 per ride...mainly pinchflats but a few thorns as well

Then went Tubeless - 10 months in...not a single flat.

    Go tubeless.

I use a S-Works Capitan on the rear and can't remember when I last had a puncture.

I've found that running pressures lower than 35 psi is just asking for trouble - more punctures than I've ever thought possible. Granted you will have a slightly more comfortable ride and a little more grip over wet roots, but you lose all the time gained when the inevitable snake-bite happens.

My vote is to go for 35 psi or above, and if you want more grip then get grippier tyres :-)

How're you finding the Captains anyway? I find as soon as they see a drop of water they positively jump away from it! Good on dry rocky stuff though

Put some stan's in your tubes, and run thicker tubes,

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford?

hi all thanx for all the replies

firstly how do u go tubeless?

    secondly wot are stans?

thirdly the captains are fine when iam going slow uphill in mud as they sink through the top layer and grip but when iam going a bit quicker through surface water its like riding a 1 legged duck on ice they all over the place!!

    cheers again paul

stans= Stan's or Joe's tubeless sealant. It'll seal small punctures. Like Slime, but better.

Assuming you've got standard rims, you'll need a tubeless conversion kit to go tubeless. www.JustRidingAlong.co.uk has/had a good explanation of the options.

I ride my bike on 60PSi Sauserwinds and very very few punctures. Don't bother with thick/Protection tyres, just pump em right up!

Couldn't be bothered to read the thread, so sorry if this is covered.

Ghetto tubeless, Joe's sealant, no more punctures.
I wear out tyres faster than I get punctures with that setup.

With tubes I used to puncture once or twice a ride.
Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?
