Hi,

Thinking of getting some new pedals for my bike...

Shimano XT's ?

or

Crank Bros Candy's ?

Cheers

I am used to Time Atacs so when I needed a lighter pedal I moved to Candys to keep the amount of lateral float and the ease of engagement in the mud but I guess if I had started on Shimanos, the XT would have been fine too. The Candys are lighter but maybe not as bombproof. I guess they will only last a fraction of what my Atacs lasted (10 years with NO maintenance, the bearings were still silky smooth, the rest of the pedal was pretty much in shreds, but that's fair wear and tear). If you're not bothered about weight, then also consider Time.

Mud and snow clearance is better on the Candys but the XTs get my vote for longevity and the adjustment on the spring tension.

ive used shimano and crank bros pedals (acid) i really hated every minute on the crank bro's pedals, they have no float as such as they unclip with hardly any movment, i found my self unclipping without even knowing as there is no idication when your clipped in or out where as the shimanos have a bit of float and you get to a point where you know exactly when your about to unclip and you get a nice crisp click when your in, you also get adjustable tension on the shimanos and they last 5 times as long.
