Giro Atmos or Ionos?

I've had my Giro E2 for the last 3 years and the cradle has given up the ghost so I'm on the lookout for a new helmet.

Is there much difference between the Atmos and the Ionos, i.e worth the extra £30 or so pounds?

Any replies of people with experience with these lids would be appreciated.

When I tried the Atmos on I found it quite hard on the top of my bald head. Try on any helmet before buying - do not simply buy mail order.

atmos is lighter and slightly more compact

ionos maybe a bit roomier inside and has better ventilation, also comes with a liner to keep your head warmer in winter

really it depends on your head shape, i tried on loads of helmets, the ionos was the most comfy, but for another person it could be the amos (or one of the many others)

I had an atmos for 2 or 3 years before an accident killed it off. Replaced it with the Ionos which I find more comfortable. Not sure why, but it feels a different shape to the Atmos. I guess choose whichever fits the best, I can't say I notice any other difference between them.

i tried the atmos but it just didnt fit right so i got the prolight which felt the same, tried the ionos and bingo it fits, feels longer front to back than the other 2 but as all above say try before you buy.
  • Thanks for the response, I'll guess I will try and find somewhere that stocks them locally so I can try them both on.

Seems most shops in the North Wales area don't seem to stock high end Giro, anyone from my neck of the woods that know of any reputable shops that do?

I know The Bike Factory in Chester seem to stock Specialized only and Halfords stock is woeful at best.

Local word has been that the Atmos has a bit of a tendency to crack the shell right in the centre at the front, whereas the Ionos design apparently fixes that issue. Otherwise both good.
I use the Ionos which is very comfortable but most importantly out here, has fantastic ventilation. The only complaint is that it is noisy - the wind noise is noticeable.

not used either but I tried on the Atmos, Ionos and Prolight in my LBS the other day and the Prolight was in another league. So much so I almost bought one, which is outstanding given that I've not spent more than £40 on a helmet in my entire life.

I have an Atmos and it is very comfy, light and well ventilated. Having always hated wearing lids it was the first helmet that I literaly didn't know I was wearing.

I would say there is plenty of ventilation (i.e. i wouldn't need the extra of the Ionos), in autumn / winter I wear either a cap or buff underneath it.
