Might be a London thing but saying hi to cyclists passed would sound like taking the pisz, or that you're a little odd but in a nice way.

nothing to do with 'London' fella - it's just polite.....

Agreed. 30 secs to say Hi, ask have they been out long / far to go / whatever. Not hard and I'd say it's basic human decency, certainly not something that needs to be learned on a forum.

... story about being passed on down hill...

Honestly. What was so upsetting about this encounter?
It felt like the guy was taking the piss. I was decked out in lycra riding at a decent pace and it just felt like the guy had buried himself to scalp me. Especially when he just stopped at the bottom.
Not saying I am not suffering from human failty for feeling this way. But honestly, it irked me. I didn't say anything to him or lose it other than inside my own head.

It felt like the guy was taking the wee-wee. I was decked out in lycra riding at a decent pace and it just felt like the guy had buried himself to scalp me. Especially when he just stopped at the bottom.

I didn't use the word wee wee.

I always say hello when being passed or passing, i could not give a damn what other people are doing or thinking about me as i am there to ride my bike and enjoy myself.

When the bloke slammed his brakes on to stop you i would of let him have his rant, then said 'have you finished' waited for his reply and then carried on as i was before and if i overtook him again i would of still said hello. Then in my mind i have been polite and done nothing wrong.

Cycling from Glasgow to fort William on a typical Scottish day of rain and more rain i was overtaken by a local farm labourer wearing wellies and sitting on a 30lb raleigh Royale.
I had just taken the knock and my egg sandwich in the back pocket had turned to mush, so i was right down there. he did say hello and although he didn't know where i was going he did say "not long to go now lad" maybe he meant he didn't have long to go but i had just about done 90 miles and was in no mood for his company. I would have taken his ploughmans lunch though.

Usually too damn knackered to squeeze out anything but a '...hi....' before falling off in front of them.
