I've not decided yet, but I'll always pick something with fairly long odds in the National. (50/1 or higher). It's a bit of a lottery so you never know.

I like the idea of a bet on the first horse to die, but it could never happen as the PC brigade would only be whinging like banshees.

Smokin Joe: Given the history of the National, an each-way on something from 50/1 to 66/1 can be a good choice.

And if horses die ... well they hold up the traffic, they don't have insurance and they don't pay road tax.

the point is, you are funding it. If you fund it, you need to embrace all that entails. If you don't like being reminded, do something else.

Crap happens.

Race horses lead a good life in general, well looked after and they enjoy what they do. Most lead better lives than your average animal and they can look forward to a long and comfortable retirement with plenty of shagging for the successful ones.

A total of zero deaths in the National today. Alfablue must be devastated. As one who used to work in Horse Racing, NOWHERE are horses better treated than in the racing industry.

I can't stand it either. It's not just the racing that kills, it's the inbreeding as well. Animals should not be raced IMO, isn't right.

My sister rang me about 5 minutes before the race and asked me to put a fiver on the winner on Betfair. I got 18/1, I'll give her the starting price odds

I never bet, got a 'red hot tip' for a horse called right of passage at some race a few weeks back, my colleague put 20 quid on and a mate put 20 quid on, horse lost. Haha
