punctures

hi,
i've recently been getting a lot of punctures lately, normally from small stones, not shards of glass or anything like that. i was just wondering if it is my tyres? ive got a spesh allez and im riding on the standard tyres that come swith the bike and my tyre pressure is 110 psi when im riding. is that a correct pressure? also, would you recommend investing in a new set of tyres of a higher quality or is this just plain unlucky?

Before my Spesh Allez got nicked, I was plagued by flats also.

Also finding the same on my Raleigh Avanti U6.. so biting the bullet and getting some Conti Gatorskins

I have the same bike, when I first got it I also got loads of punctures - usually one per ride. Changed the tyres, and had about one puncture in six months. The tyres must be crap.

I've done about 400 miles on some pretty terrible roads on my Gatorskins and not a single flat. Before that on my Luganos I had two flats in 30 miles. People get pretty sniffy about the Gatorskins as far as speed goes but you can't go fast on a flat.

I agree. I would also reduce the pressure a few pounds and take can to avoid road debris, if possible, and the dreaded thorn hedge clippings that we are plagued with in rural areas.

Touch wood, that's tempting fate I know, but havn't had a puncture on my road bike for some time. I also inspect my tyres after every ride to make sure that I havn't picked up any grit or thorns that can cause a puncture and then wipe the tyres over with a wet cloth.
