After being absent from riding for the past 7-8 years, If I'm honest when I passed my driving test in 2003 the bikes went to the side sadly.. but... I'm now getting back into the game..

Heres What I have so far..

Started out with this frame I won on ebay (Gary Fisher GED Jump Frame) as I'm only 5'1 this is the perfect size.. It was also fitted with an FSA headset which was nice..

GFFrame.jpg

Next came the forks, Rock Shox Psylo with the 80-120mm travel adjuster a steal at £35!! and also the bars and stem at £40 for the set.

Heres how she was looking with the bits on earlier this week..

6.jpg

Next came the brakes and wheels.. Again ebay bargains here.. As I didn't want hydraulic I chose some cable discs (as i'm used to working with cables).. They are discs I've never heard of before (Kooka) but luckily they run on shimano pads..
Also the wheels were £80 on ebay (heinmann DP3000 rims on shimano disc hubs)

here it is as it stands now.. wheels and discs on.. All I need now its the drive train, cables and other lil odds and ends

Haha yes the towel I got years ago when my mum was a sales rep for Lucozade.. If you remember Lara Croft was the mascot for them a few years back lol

Anyway, yes I chose a small frame because the reach for the bars is spot on for me haha..

And yeh some great bargains, considering that I am on a slight budget its turning out well.. Riding wise, all i'll be doing is some XC trail riding and some mild downhill nothing too extreme..

Very nice little 'budget' ride there, like it :)
I've always wondered what psylos were like too, any good? They look like quality forks.

For a cheap build.. that looks LUSH!

also, where abouts are you in swansea... im in uplands....

if you go up the stupidly steep hill of torturous death (the one on the left in your pic, going from the pier up onto the road to bracelet bay and then go left towards castle maree, there is a sweet trail in the rocks by the beach... real tech and fun.

Nice work building it up bit by bit, did it take you long ?
  • That looks like a really sweet bike! How much do you think it roughly cost to build?

Cheers for the comments folks.. It didn't take too long to build really, I must say it rides very well..

Only downer is that the Cable discs are a nightmare to set up, their the dual action type so the pads move on both sides.. but trying to align it all up is proving very difficult.. No matter what, the disc rubs the pads when rolling and when I pull the brake lever it pulls in quite far.. Arrrgh!

Other than that its going great..

As for the Psylo's their fantastic, nice and smooth and take up the bumps very nicely.. I was reading up on them today and their 125mm travel.. that 5mm makes all the difference haha

Some new bits today.. Brand new decals to replace the peeling ones on the downtube (not fitted yet) and a new seat.. Took that tooth pick halfords one back and got a nice Tioga DH seat for £2.80!! on ebay

    IMG_1993.jpg
  • i know you said you didnt fancy hydraulic brakes, but if you are still having issues with your cable ones i have also found hydros much easier to set up. i do appreicate its alot of money, but the stopping power on them is good. Juicy 3s are on Merlin atm for £100 for F and R set, so if you can stretch to it might be worth a look IMO :) looks well sweet thou for sure

(sorry for the really poor english aswell)

get rid off that saddle. looks really bad on that bike. apart from that i really like it

looks awsome as i said... but that saddle is an atrocity... my mate used to have one, looks even worse in real life... uncomfy as sin too.

also, drop the pump and watter bottle holder, looks wrong, use a Camelback....

    aside from that, looks amazing.

Nice bike. Total cost of final product?

We'll exclude the Psylo's and cable brakes as you can sell them on.....

    Cheers for the comments guys..

The bottle holder will stay until I pick up a camelbak, I used to have one until the bladder inside went icky... As for the mini pump, its come in handy on a few occasions so i'll keep that on there :)

Must be said the bombers are great, very happy with them :)

Even the seat is nice in my opinion, I've had 3 tioga seats on my older bikes and i'm never found them a problem.. I like the stripe running down it too

all together its come to just over £600 ish.. the bulk of it being the drivetrain and the wheels etc.. I know its a but much but I think its worth it.. Knowing that this is my own creation :) loves it

    Back again hehe..

After a 29mile ride on that seat the other day, u guys were right.. The seat is gone!

So to keep with my black and white theme I've gone for a new Selle Italia Q-bik Seat in white, its normal size and a tad more comfy.. This along with the white superstar grips, imo it looks better..

I also added some new graphics to the forks :)
