LOL. I initially read that as 8 feet deep and couldn't believe you were so certain that would easily be beaten.

Luckily for me, all the big nasty ones round our way were pretty swiftly dealt with.

    I can easily beat that.
Unfortunately I won't be on the route until Tuesday but I will see what I can get then.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Weeeell ... in that case it'll be disqualified. Potholes are due to lack of maintainence, not acts of God.

Thread back on track ... :D

There was a beauty in Liverpool right after the snow and ice t'other month, virtually the whole of one side of the road was potholed, fortunately it was repaired pretty sharpish.

You need to add an extra stat.

    Wheel breaking potential: 3/10

You see, there's no big hard edge at the back. Sure, this hole might throw you off, but it is not going to taco your rim.

There's one near the local Chinese takeway... it's so deep it should have a diving board for when it rains.

Newport Road in Stafford from past the Vets to the Railway bridge is just one pot hole or other crap piece of road surface after another.

The town direction is worse than the side taken by the Google Van.

There are some estates in Brighton that are complete holes, leave your bike there and it'll disappear completely..

I thought you'd have done more with this thread!

But still, from here is this:
    09042010219.jpg

More of a pothole field than one major one, each of the two big ones is 3 yards long, and with a nice square edge as you ride/drive out of it. Then there's another three 'satellite' potholes orbiting the main ones covering pretty much the whole lane.

Gloucester > Ledbury road, bridge over M50, helpful council sign `Weather damaged surface` no kidding :o drove over last week, maxm 5mph like a series of bomb craters liberally scattered over entire bridge, at least 4" deep and a test of avoidance skills in a car as so many.

Here's a goodie ...Not only could you lose a wheel you could, potentially, lose the bike and the cyclist in this one.

There was a good one about 20 years ago by the post office, near where I used to live in St Helens. Just across the road from the old colliery, so there was the occasional problem with subsidence.... someone woke up one morning to find a hole had opened up in the road and swallowed their car :D

At the back of my home there used to be a set of old garages, there was always some sort of subsidence there with holes getting bigger and bigger. Eventualy the owner of the land realised he'd make more money selling up. Place was flattened and flats built - there's already cracks in the rendering. That's gonna be one HUGE pothole, just hope they catch it soon.

Well, i took a while and I am not sure that the photo will load but here goes:-

Back road into Blackburn, Aberdeenshire taken last night.
The high spots are where it was fixed last spring and it was smooth last summer.
Thge worst part is that it is not an isolated bad patch. There are 4 other areas very similar within 100 metres.

But it was about 6 years ago, and I didn't take a photo of it

No pictures But hampshires record for fixing holes is not great. Filthehole has a record of a pothole outside Ringwood Police station dating back 5 years, The hole, sorry holes, may not be large but they are still there. Cycling south from Salisbury last Saturday we did not need the sign to tell us we had crossed back into Hampshire the state of the road surface told us. Also going across the forest towards Sway one of the holes is bad enough that they have marked it with a traffic cone that is half visible out of the top of the hole
