Just looking for some local information really - Ive entered to do the Nokia Scotland Coast to Coast Adventure Race in September

And theres a 40km section of MTBing in the middle - from Fort Augustus - heading south west. I think its somewhere along the path of the caledonian canal ?
In the absence of any more info - I'm just wondering what bike would be best to ride this route - theres about 80km of road biking too - and its just the one bike - so I'm leaning towards buying a cross bike (any excuse eh ?) if the route isnt too gnarly ? I've only got 13 hours to do the entire race - so my MTB may be a bit sluggish I think ?
Anyone know the area ?
