Gear ratios and tubs/clinchers?

How do you calculate gear ratios when looking at crank and cassette teeth numbers?
My boardman Hybrid has a 50/36 (yes 36 not 34) with a 11/32 cassette. I want to get a comparism as I change to a road bike in the ratios ie if I am on the biggest rear cog on my Boardman 36/32 how does that compare say to a 34/27 on a road bike?
Is there a simple equation - maths not my strong point!
My other point is can someone explain tubs and clinchers to me!
