So I recently used one of my friends car racks and it scratched my bike up quite well, it was the kind you put on the back of your car. like this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Larg ... elID=28383
I was wondering if the ones that go on top of your car are any better?

Well, ive no experience of the roof rack style bike carriers, but I suppose there is less risk of your bike being scratched if thats your main concern.
For some reason ive always been unsure of roof rack style carriers though, I suspect is because im forgetful and ino doubt I will forget my bikes on top and go straight through a barrier going into a carpark or such like  I read many stories of this happening!0 -
well ive got both, and both have scratched my bikes in different
ive got round the proplem and put old inner tubes on the racks, to prevent scratches, slip them over the arms of the carrier. and wrap them round the grips of teh roof rack0 -
Are these the same bikes that you ride down rocky dirty mountainsides?
Best thing to do is wash the area that the clamp goes round,it is generally the muck and shite that causes the scratches and wear when the bike moves in the clamp slightly

I have a Thule roof top carrier 951? 915? something like that anyway and I'm v happy with it. It grabs the bike in one place only so 5 mins and a bit of heli tape has protected it from carrier related damage. It's also very stable so I don't worry about the odd bump throwing the bike off the back into traffic. The biggest bonus however is that it leaves the boot fully accessible.Commencal Meta 55 Team custom build

Anybody any experience with a rear mounted rack for a Fiat Punto? I don't know whether I should be looking at the High or Low mounted ones. The lights are high up, but some are low down.
:? Confused I Am.It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.
