Can you try them for size? See what fits and feels best.

Riding the gf's sirrus elite day in day out to work and back (20m per day)

It's a very nice bike, but:
    - I found the fork a pain in the hairy one to mount guards on.
    - I have a fair bit of toe rub

Else, it's comfy and light (for an hybrid)

i will be getting the shop to fit the guards, its on the cyclescheme.

    are full guards better?

does it handle cycle paths ok?
    what about kerbs?
    thankls

I have full guards, but it means I can't get the original 35 tyres on (replaced by 28)
Original brakes were a bit crappy, so replaced by some nice shimano (for which I've changed the blocks recently)

With the original tyres, paths were no problem. I'm pretty sure my 28 randonneurs wouldn't have any either, but haven't tried.
Kerb, well, I don't do it, but the wheels seem pretty bomb proof.
