Looking to buy The One MY10- can anyone recommend any good pads?- I have recently heard from guys who have bought them, that formula's stock ones last "4hours"?- in wet and muddy. I cycle 4-6 days a week, whole year, so I would be needing something that can withstand all weather conds, but still with decent breaking power.

Also if some of you have used both: MAGURA and FORMULA- what is the difference between those two brands? I am not fussy about their looks. Have been using Magura's since 2007- no experience with Formulas- still thinking about switching brands. Thanks

I ride with Formula K18's - when I first got them they pads that we provided were good performance wise, but were gone after a few rides. Changed to Superstar sintered pads since then and have never had any braking issues. Others will recommend Superstar pads, but of course, others won't.

Its all personal preference I suppose. Upside for me is that Superstar pads are cheap compared to the price of Formulas. Eg. Apx 4 sets of the Superstar vs 1 set of the formula last time I looked! :?

sintered pads for wet and muddy conditions.
    Organic for dry conditions.

    same for all makes.

I'm running Superstar kevlar pads in my K18's - the front took some bedding in but they have been great since.

I have tried sintered with my marta mag. I know they last long, but their breaking power is just "not good". Anything in between?- semi-metallic or kevlar compound- have you had any experience with them?

I was just reading what superstar has written- how is the stopping power with kevlars on (comparing to stock ones) and for how long have you been using them

I've only had them fitted for a few weeks - mainly on muddy bridleways and a couple of trail centre trips.

It was really wet and muddy when I fitted them and the front took a couple of rides to bed in fully. Now bedded in, they have as much stopping power as I have needed (and a bit more than I needed on a couple of occasions). No fade from them when they've been used for a while downhill - I'm running F180/R160mm on a Giant Anthem X.

I can't compare them to standard I'm afraid as I bought the K18's from a forum member who'd taken them off a new bike and he threw in a couple of sets of kevlar Superstar pads. I stuck a pair in to start off with as I was interested to see how good they were.

I've used Superstar which for the money are very good, I just had a few issues getting them to fit and gave up last time as I was going out for a ride that day and couldn't be bothered to faff about and miss the ride.

I'm currently running Swisstop pads front and rear and they have been excellent however they are pricey. They seem to be wearing pretty well considering how wet and muddy it's been, I've been running them since early February and have done about 300/350 miles on them so far.

I would imagine pad wear also depends where you ride it maybe the mud here isn't a grinding as where you are...

Superstar pads are some of the best out there, but stock pads are excellent.

You normally get a huge upgrade going from manufacturer pads to superstar, not so with the Ones.

The sintered are quite good, organic and semi are not.

There is just nothing out there as good as the original pads =-(
Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?
  • I'm using EBC Gold Sintered in my MY09 The One brakes with no problems.

They do seem to go through pads a bit quicker than other systems, but I'm riding in wet, sand / mud Peak District conditions.

Overall, been very happy with my setup, good modulation and exquisite engineering detail.

superstar pads are brilliant value and to answer the magura vs formula question don't the my10s have bigger pistons which usually means more power

thanks very much guys- I think I am going to try those superstars, then. Koolstop do not produce them for The One- Oro only and same about ashima S.O.S here (oro only)- interesting stuff, though.

baba123- I have recently bought Marta Magnesium SL and even though they do come with way bigger pads (means bigger braking surface) compare to older sisters from 2007 (Gold SL) and 2008 (Red)- Gold is still the strongest of them all and then there is Red- magnesium is the very last. It is not about the size then. :D Thanks for an advice on superstars
