Cycling Plus have ranked Britain's 20 biggest cities in order of bike-friendliness and concluded that Bristol is the country's top cycling city:

Of course, not everyone agrees, and the article has provoked plenty of debate. So, which of the 10 cities that came highest in the list do you think should have come out on top?

  • Voted for Nottingham as its the only one I have cycled in!

Although Nottingham do seem to be making more of an effort than some other cities to make cycling easier, it is still far too little compared to other European Cycling Cities.

suprised Oxford is not on the list - and to only include cyclists who are members of either BCF or CTC is utterly ridiculous....

That's a very lazy way of gathering the data and it probably skews the entire survey...

no bodys wants to cycle IN a city, so I would siuggest you would be hard pushed to beat Leeds - Yorkshire dales, Pennines, North York Moors and the Vale of York for flat stuff all cycleable within the day, chuck in some fantastic beers and cakes and you are onto a winner

but yes Leeds is god awful for actually cycling IN

meh! 5 votes since last Thursday! You need a 'None of the above' category cos they're all shite I expect (don't get me started on Bristol. UK's first cycling city my arse!!!)

A bit grim. I live in Edinburgh and parts of it are very dangerous for cylists.
It also has some of the worst roads in the Uk for potholes etc.

I only know Nottingham and Leicester - of those I'd say Leicester is making a genuine attempt to make cycling more popular.

I'd have expected York to be on there. Certainly better than Manchester.

All citys are shit for cycling in because there are to many cars/buses/lorrys/taxis/4x4s.Do you want to take your life in your hands by trying to dodge these things day in day out!!
Keep the chain tight all the way.

the best city for me having ridden in a few is easily newcastle. Easy to get in and out of, and thanks to great north road, and the A1 most cars stay on those roads, and the high streets and residential areas are very quiet. and not far from northumberland national park so great riding.

Also, Hull, cause it's so flat. and when you are out of the city through to the likes of beverley, walkington and etton, and out further there is some beautiful country side, I can go out for 6 hours and not see a single car, but lots of cyclists!

  • Leicester gets my vote but don't understand why London is not on the list. Cycling in London can be a pleasure in the right conditions.
