Oh my fooking god this is driving me mad!!!

My CX bike sounds like I'm bouncing on a old bed spring when climbing or pushing hard, I've tried full strip and clean including changing chainrings and removing BB.

Arhhhh what can this be?

    Cleats?

    My road bike is squeaky as h*ll at the moment with SPDs, but totally silent with Looks...

    Yes i've checked the frame several times

    i've also changed the following;
    shoes & cleats
    pedals
    bottom bracket
    seat post
    saddle
    stem
    shifters & cables
    chainrings & bolts
    cycle comp
    bottle cages & pumps
    saddle bag & mount
    front derailleur
    headset spacers - carbon :wink:

    that leaves;
    crank arms
    rear derailleur
    cassette
    wheels
    chain
    headset
    forks - I hope not :(

    I've greased or coopersliped every surface.

    Might be a loose spoke in a wheel

    checked and all okay, I did just discover the chain is wickedly stretched, could that possibly be the source?

    Balls!!!! I think the cassette is shagged as well, I swapped the wheels over to the new commuter, on which everything else is brand new, indexing perfect as usual 8) :lol:

    However when I stamp on the pedals the chain jumps neither up nor down just around, sort of slipping, how can you tell if a cassette is worn?

  • Compare it to a new one. If a new chain is slipping on it, then it's worn out. Either replace it or put the old chain back on and run it into the ground. Doubdtful that it's a worn drivetrain making a springy sound though, unless the chain really needs oiling.
