The 200km has an eye watering 4700m of climbing on a really beautiful route.
Highly recommended.
+1 - but don't let too many people in on it - I'm planning to ride it this year.I wish I was any place but the someplace I\'m in0 -
Is Arthington Bank on Black Hill Road - anyway if so did this for the first time today on my way home from a 60 miler, have to say I thought it was a real leg breaker, not helped by a car stopping in front of me about half way up just as I got to a damp patch on the road leading to a wheel spinning halt ... I had to freewheel back down and then have another go.
Thought it was harder than Creskeld, Old Pool Bank or the long main drag out of Otley. I always find East Chevin a bit tough mainly because there is always traffic revving up your *rse (as with cow & calf)....
I'll have to try Weardley Bank next...0 -
Had to resurrect this thread after having a ride around the area the last couple of nights.
See my Garmin data here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/184131256
Once you've got over the pedestrian pace I was riding at, some rough calculations give the following:
Chevin starts at 10.84mi, 165ft elevation and ends at 12.36mi, 728ft elevation.
So, 563ft of climbing in 1.52mi (8025ft) comes out at average gradient of around 7%. Anyone care to prove/disprove this?0 -
Isn't the sign half way up/down the avg grade? I cycle up there a lot living in HorsforthLeeds and my polar bike comp clocks it in places at 18%. It's certainly no walk in the park and you know you have been up it once u hit the top. As for steepest climb in this area I think it would have to be langbar. The climb up and over to embsay is also a good test. Pretty long and steep. Coming from Bolton abbey side.Look 595 ultra - F+F for sale.....
