Yet another 'What bike should I buy' thread (sorry)

Morning(/Afternoon/Evening) all,
Bit of background to disguise the fact that for twenty years I've been a dangerously bone idle git...
Once upon a time (twenty years ago when he was twenty) there was a 'reasonable' club cyclist who lived in Derbyshire and had access to Holme Moss, the Snake, Saddleworth Moor etc., unfortunately he succumbed to the bright lights and riches of London and spent the next twenty years commuting on the train, living in hotels and being wined and dined by the hoi polloi.
The upshot of this is that at Christmas I weighed 22 stone (6'1") , I now (April 6th) weigh 19 stone and my target is to weigh 17 stone by the time I go to Spain for 6 weeks in the summer hols.
In time for this I am intending to get a new bike, my question is that if I bought it now what sort of frame/wheels should I be looking for and in particular will carbon be strong enough? I have read a load of the forum threads in relation to this sort of thing and also been to a few of the local bike shops who have all told me that 'of course you're not too heavy for carbon, we get a lot of people in here bigger than you'... but I can't help thinking that they're just being nice/trying to sell a bike so I'm a bit confused.
The bike I was thinking about is one of the new Planet-x carbon frames with a campag chorus groupset and some fairly robust wheels which I'm not decided on yet.
Any suggestions?

I wouldn't worry too much about a carbon frame with your weight, I've only seen weight limits on a few exotic high-end ultra-light framesets, it's usually jsut fancy wheels you have to be careful off regarding weight limits.
I found when I returned to road cycling after a 15 year break (and gaining 4 stone... ) that I just couldn't ride my old bike, the geometry was too extreme. I ended up replacing it with a Spesh Roubaix and haven't regretted it. I did think about a Planet-X but had my doubts over the geometry being comfortable enough (given I was less flexible and fatter than in my racing days), given they are mail order only I didn't risk it in the end - they're a bargain though if they do suit you.0 -
oki thanks:)0
