Looking to upgrade helmet - looking at Giro Prolight, Met Sine-Thesis and Catlike Whisper - I get very sweaty and often wear cap under helmet - though find this a pain in the summer. Any experience with the 3 or other suggestions would be great. Thanks

You need to try them on to make sure of the fit as different helmets of the same indicated size will vary in fit between manufacturers (and even models from the same manufacturer). Personally I use a Spesh S-Works 2D on the road and highly rate it, certainly worth having on a short-list to try out.

+1 for trying it on for comfort.

I cant see that you'd notice much difference in ventilation between similarly priced helmets.
  • Indeed try them on, my Giro Atmos fits really well, but when I tried on the Ionos, it felt a different shape. Even though the Atmos is now a few years old, It vents really well.

Don't buy helmets online, go try them on.

+1 for buying from a shop. Try them on, see how they feel. I bought the S-Works 2D as it was the only one that fitted the shape of my head (baked bean).

Please dont spend ages in a shop getting advice then go buy online though, it's just rude and unfair to get the benefit of the shop's staff time then buy elsewhere.

I was VERY surprised how different the main brands were when I tried them, so echo the above. Go to a shop and try loads. I found the most expensive ones in a few ranges were quite uncomfortable so was rather glad I didnt just buy online.

I also have an Atmos which I find vents well even in summer. Mind you it is my first helmet so no others to compare against! As others have said, buy on fit, not looks or price tag -> lbs. Having previously suffered a journey on a motorbike with an ill fitting helmet, it's amazing how uncomfortable it can get after an hour or so!!
