    Two things to comment on from that overhead shot;

    1. The finish is on a straight road after a long curved right hand bend, so the speed of the riders will naturally take them to the left of the road.

    2. Valverde's team mate forces Freire left, so he does what any sensible sprinter does and rides towards the barrier to ensure anyone who tries to come past him needs to do so in the wind. His movement from right to left is consistent and he doesn't chop Valverde.

    I'd have left the result as it was if I'd the commissaire. I think Valverde was lucky there and his theatrics came after he knew he was beaten and one assumes were done to influence the race jury in any protest.
