Bought another set of Shimano M520's last October for the commuter bike after using them on my MTB for a year or so. A few weeks ago I noticed the left hand pedal was not rotating smoothly (sort of 'notchy') and was quite hard to turn by hand - thought about sending it back but then decided to service them myself as I'm trying to improve my workshop skills. Bought the correct Shimano tool, TL-PD40 and followed the BR guide. The plastic retaining sleeve which is supposed to unscrew was very tight and I eventually succeeded in shearing the sleeve. Firstly I was definitely turning it the right way, there's an arrow on the tool so even I couldn't get it wrong!
So have I messed up my chances of a replacement? I've emailed CRC explaining and am in their hands now.
