I've got one. :(

What do you do? Leave them be, squeeze 'em, lance them, ride or stay off the bike?

Stay of the bike.leave them, use sudocream, invest in some better fitting shorts, saddle? and chamois cream for future rides.

I would have got saddle sores today if I'd done more than 25 miles, the dhb shorts are cheap overated pieces of crap.

I use liberal amounts of Assos chamois cream per ride and I've not changed my shorts recently. I've used Specialized and Castelli kit on the road and Edura Humvees on the MTB for the best part of three and a half years and it is all well fitting.

I shower if not immediately then certainly within 15-20 mins of returning home.

I'm p!ssed off that this didn't happen during January or February and has only risen it's ugly head once the light mornings and better weather has arrived. I was also hoping to order my new bike this coming week. :(

A warm compress increases blood flow to the sore to fight infection and will speed up healing.

(No offence meant) But you do wash your shorts after every ride don't you?

FWIW I think it can just happen from time to time, pros occasionally get them, and they ride top quality kit, unfortunately you can be unlucky.

I would stay off the bike if it's too uncomfortable, however, if it's bearable you could go for short rides and if that doesn't have a negative effect, you could try riding as normal.

From what I remember of having one, it just went away, but it was quite a minor one, I have heard some rather horrific stories related to saddle sores.

No offence taken and yes, shorts/bibs etc. go straight in the washing basket post-ride. I've at least a dozen pairs of decent well-fitting bib shorts and longs so I've no excuses and wouldn't dream of wearing them two days running.

Gives you a good opportunity to get plenty of out-of-saddle riding practise! I'd certainly try and get rid of any infection and keep it clean to accelerate the healing process.

Is it saddle sore you've got, skin rubbed raw etc, or is it a boil on your delicates?

If it's saddle sore then Drapolene works well. If it's a boil thingy, hot bath, brace yerself & pop it. I had one a bit back, it had the explosive power of a medium sized firework when it went off....Booooshh!

Check saddle for level too, mine had dropped a wee bit.

If it is a spot/boil it's due to ingrowing hairs, nowt much you can do other than a back, sack & crack waxing sesh...
  • I got 2 massive ones after the divs champs last year due to having an ill fitting saddle. Jesus christ did they go pop

Zinc and Castor oil cream.................swear by it!!!

Finished the Kirroughtree 10 last year (10 hour mountain bike race) and.........to put it bluntly.......my ass was in tatters!!!!!!

Put this on (which I now call the magic cream in the bathroom cupboard!) and withn a day or so the blisters had died down and I could sit again!!

ALSO invest in teh best shorts you can afford!

I'm not a doctor but I feel that even with a saddle sore you probably could order a new bike. Sorry, couldn't resist.
