What do we reckon ? Should convictions and investigations be in the offing ?
Are parts of Catholocism relevant to modern society ?
For instance the Catholic church are still adamant that using condoms is wrong, but in certain countries in Africa this would drastically cut down HIV and other STD's, not in as much as a birth control measure as a disease limiter.
Any thoughts ?

Don't know enough about Catholic doctrine.dmclite wrote:For instance the Catholic church are still adamant that using condoms is wrong, but in certain countries in Africa this would drastically cut down HIV and other STD's, not in as much as a birth control measure as a disease limiter.

The Catholic church is trying to go up against human nature. We are primates. We are promiscuous animals, and pretending that God meant us to be with one partner for our entire lives isn't going to change that.0 -

Parts. Not all.For instance the Catholic church are still adamant that using condoms is wrong, but in certain countries in Africa this would drastically cut down HIV and other STD's, not in as much as a birth control measure as a disease limiter.
Fidelity in marriage and no sex before marriage would also cut down on these things.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
No need for condoms if you're only sh@gging pre-pubescent boys. :evil:Tail end Charlie
The above post may contain traces of sarcasm or/and bullsh*t.0 -
It speaks volumes that they're describing the issue as "petty gossip" :evil:0

Yes, Romford isn't in Africa."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -
I've thought for some time that if Roman Catholicism only 'started' today, it wouldn't take long for it to be considered as a cult of the type your parents wouldn't be too happy about you joining.0

It's always been a running joke choir boys and catholic church. It's been buried for centuries and I firmly believe it's deep in global institutions - from high places in government to the police to the church etc etc.
It's a good thing that people are now actually taking notice, shame it's come too late for some.http://www.youtube.com/user/Eurobunneh - My Youtube channel.0 -

I was brought up as a Catholic and most of the priests and nuns I came across were deeply flawed individuals. All religeons thrive on control of their adherants and I have no doubt that the Muslims and other orders have just as many scandals hidden from view through the fear they instill.0 -

That's all been done already.
There have been at least 3 judicial commissions into various aspects of the abuse scandal, there isn't much left to investigate. The Ryan report took 10 years to investigate, the Murphy report took 4 years. Both reported last summer, hence why this is in the news, as the aftermath of those significant investigations rumbles on.
Most of the offenders were long dead before any of this came to light, the rest were all dealt with by the police years ago. Criminal investigations into the cover-up didn't produce enough evidence to convict anyone still living either, though any new evidence in the Murphy Report is being looked at.
The issue now is what does the Irish Catholic Church do about it all, and where will that leave them with the Irish people.0 -
Don't know what the solution is, but they do seem to get away with murder at times.0

The belief that a cosmic Jewish zombie, who was his own father can make you live for ever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree…. Yeah, makes perfect sense.
And that's their excuse for interfering with young boys ???Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.
Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved0 -

The New Testament in one sentence. Genius!
All religions are about power and therefore should be banished :evil:None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -

Careful, that's never been proven
Unfortunately (speaking as a Catholic) the way this has been dealt with at the highest level gives more fuel to the flames and has helped make it appear that all priests are child abusers whereas it is only a very small minority. They should have been reported as soon as people were aware of complaints and dealt with via the usual judicial routes. As for are parts of Catholicism still relevant - if something is a belief surely you can't just change it to reflect public opinion, that has to be the basis of a faith. Having said that there is plenty I don't agree with so I guess I'm not a very good Catholic0 -

And can we do away with the rather sanitising term of "child abuse"? Forcing your penis into a child's mouth or up their ar$e is RAPE.0 -

This isn't the first time I've heard this but it could be a urban myth. Then again, the Catholic Church has kept it's secrets v.well. It's one of the best informed intelligence networks having collected data for 1,000 yearsM.Rushton0
