Has anyone used these ?

http://www.wheelbuilder.com/store/aero-disc-covers.html

Its for an Ironman bike leg - Germany - so its pretty flat, and I CBA to splash out the money on a full disc. I have the Planet X 50mm wheels already, so would just fill out the back to get the disc effect. The extra weight shouldnte be an issue, and i should get the aero benefit.

Just wondered if anyone else has done it over here - I see they're popular in the US, but I cant see a UK stockist ?

Buying from the US is also very easy and quick, and pretty cheap.

Aah damn - was thinking the shipping from the states would be a bit pricey for such big things. Oh well - UK is good too.

ISTR it's around 35 USD, but you also need to factor in a potential VAT and duty (4.7% on bike parts from US) to the cost which makes the Bristol option probably a good one. The owner certainly has a good rep on a number of forums, so I wouldn't hesitate in using him. But just wanted to add the good service I got from the US.

it's now over 60 dollars for shipping. I know because I've just bought one!

The advantage of the US one is the fact he can specifically make one for my rim and hub combo (Open Pro / Powertap)

I've got a feeling Bike Science can do different rims too? One to check though.

Yeah its not on the website, it came up in a timetriallingforum thread the other day.

'I can get covers custom cut to any wheel size (within reason) incl ones cut specifically for powertap. Just email me with whatever you want. Wheelbuilder require rim depth and spoke count plus a yes/no for powertap.'

Not entirely sure whether its cheaper than ordering direct from the US or not? Easier to do though I guess.

What do you think of it so far NapD?

The wheelbuilder site has drop down lists for what rim you have, number of spokes and the hub type, it couldn't be simpler. About 100 quid with a spare hardware set delivered...

That's £100 you could have put towards a REAL disc wheel.

    Yes.

When you get your covers - we can do a swap one week. You can borrow my disc and I'll try yours on a club TT night.

From the reviews I've seen - the covers give you about 95% of the benefit of a disc. Even if its not that good - its still worth a look !
