Hi all
Thanks for reading as I am in need of some guidance
I am looking to start cycling again, finishing uni this coming may and looking to buy a new bike, I do have a sunn but with no suspension, and i am looking for an upgrade.
I am looking to spend around the 500 ± 200 on a hard-tail that is lightweight but will last me if i start taking cycling more serious
I know i'm not going to be getting the 'cats pajamas' for the price range but wonder if anyone has an idea for the best option.
I have looked at the GT avalanche 1.0 but have read its a heavy bike
Thanks for the help its much appreciated
Andrew

The GT is a burly bike, but not that heavy.
Have a look at our What Bike thread for some ideas. Certainly worth spending at least 500 quid as you get a good jump in quality, especially the fork.
The Boardman Comp would be the bike I'd recommned.0 -
Your best bet is probably one of these, but are right at the top of your budget, Carrera Furys and Vulcans also get good reviews.

Also look at www.paulscycles.co.uk or www.decathlon.co.uk, they have great entry level bikes too.And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

Not light though. Depends what your priorities are. The boardmans will be better suited if you're looking for a light bike.
And seriously, that budget is all you need. You'll get a cracking bike for that money. You'll only need to spend any more if you get seriously into it and even then there's no need for it, it's merely an option.0 -
if you can stretch to it this is worth a look

its pretty much the same bike as the spesh rockhopper comp which i would certainly recommend but that is £800. Although as i found when i bought one you can get discounts and around 10% of the purchase price thrown in with kit.0 -
