Hi

Im thinking of buying a set of Easton EC90 SL. I´ve been trying to figure out the Easton "Cassette body compatibility reference chart". http://www.eastonbike.com/downloadable_ ... 0Chart.pdf
My bike has a set of SRAM RED and as far as I can see there is a specific cassette body for RED OG-1090 cassettes on the Easton wheels. Do you guys know if it´s really not possible to use the standard Easton R4SL Shimano body or do I have to buy a extra SRAM specific body? On other wheels like my Zipp 404:s, the standard Shimano body can also handle my SRAM RED OG-1090 cassette.

    It's confusing for sure.

The EC90SL uses the R4SL Cassette body - and Easton make specific ones for specific cassettes.

So for that particular wheelset, you would need the correct freehub body. But whoever is suppling you the wheels (if bought from new) might put the correct freehub body on for you.

For most other Easton (and indeed most other wheels in general), a Shimano freehub will also take a Sram cassette.

The issue was covered in part here:

    WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT:
    Easton R4SL hub upgrades

    WHY:
Easton upgraded the R4 hub found on its top-end wheels with a series of modifications. The R4SL rear hub's axle saves nine grams and has ceramic bearings. Easton offers three "standard" bodies: Campy, Shimano 10 and SRAM. The SL bodies rid of all the "unnecessary" splines. The SRAM SL cassette body, for instance is only compatible with Red cassettes. In the photo, the cassette bodies, from left, are: Campy standard, Campy SL, Shimano 10 standard, Shimano 10 SL. SRAM standard, SRAM SL.

The Freehub on the EA90SLX wheels is Dura Ace 10 speed only - and has the freehub with less splines, etc. You CAN fit other cassettes on it, but they will chew up the freehub, etc.

This issue is specific to EASTON R4SL freehub bodies ONLY. Not to be confused with other freehub bodies and compatibilities.

The special offer wheels are EA SL (NOT SLX) and can be used with more than JUST Dura Ace 10 speed cassettes.

    Makes sense to me now.
