want to start commuting regularly by bike after the easter holidays and neither my mr hyde or trailstar really fit the bill - so i had a look around the garage and shed to see what i could find to build a 'road' MTB
frame - lee cooper custom XC frame (already had)
forks - no name steel rigid (£5 off ebay)
bars - raceface evolve XC (£25)
stem - da bomb floata 90mm (£18 ) with 1" quill to 1.125" aheadset adaptor (£8 )
headset - no name 1" threaded (already had)
grips - nc17 lock-on s-pro 2 (£17)
brake levers - shimano DX (already had)
brakes - shimano LX Vs (already had)
gears - N/A (singlespeed)
chain device - DMR chain reactor (already had) with DMR tension seeker (already had)
seat - WTB shadow V pro (£15 on sale from £60)
seatpost - identiti T-4 (£18 )
seatpost clamp - built into frame
cranks - nasty suntour XCR ISIS (from wifes hardrock after upgrading)
chainring(s) - suntour 32T (from wifes hardrock after upgrading)
chain - SRAM i think (already had)
cassette - 12T
pedals - old planet X V8 copies (already had)
bottom bracket - noname ISIS (from wifes hardrock after upgrading)
wheels - dodgy old noname things (already had)
tubes - michelin
tyres - schwalbe big apple 2.00 (already had)
weight - around 30lb
cost me about 105 quid in all (and could have built it way cheaper if i wasnt such a colour tart and had used some mismatched saddles / seatposts / grips / bars i had laying around as well) - still - not bad i reckon for a reasonable commuter

I like!
As with trekhead it's also my favourite colour.
I'd quite like a SS, sadly though, they'd just not work round here.0
