The age old question, what is the best bike for £1000?

LIke many roadies, £1000 seems to be a decent benchmark for buying your new bike, and I'm no different. I was wondering what opinions people had on such bikes in this price area, particularly about Focus Cayo 2009/2010, Dolan Mythos 2009 and Boardman bikes. I'm 5ft 10 and 130 lbs, 17 yo and use my current bike as cross training from running. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Haha, sorry mate but ths thread comes up 50 times a day.
Anyhoo i reckon that if you want carbon then the boardman from halfords usually wins the vote;

Many folk would also suggest the Cannondale CAAD9 as it has a race proven frame very worthy of upgrades, if it were my cash that's what i'd be getting;

However these are quite 'racy' frames so you may find them a little uncomfortable over distances in which case something from Ribble may be the key;

Thanks, I've checked all the posts relating to this subject, and there's a lot of info on Boardman, CAAD and Ribble, was just wondering what the general opinion was of Dolan. Thanks0

Well that's what the 'celebs' who did the jogle sport relief ride did it on so ......
To be fair bikes tend to be much of a muchness at any given price point, which model caught your eye particularly. Someone on here's bound to have one.....winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

Yeah, I noticed that, Dolan Mythos seemed to be the one for me. It had some great reviews on velodrome.org.uk and roadcycling.co.uk and it looks great and Dolan has some great history for frames which is the most important part of the bike. Not a bad spec for £999 either, 12k carbon finish, full 105, askium wheelset and deda cockpit. Not bad at all IMHO0
