N.Wales Trip Suggestions?

I'm travelling up from the S. West at the end of the Month for a wedding in Liverpool (1 May). I've got the Thurs and Friday off before the big day and want to make a couple of stops in Wales.

I ride the trail centres in the South and the Brecon Beacons occaisionally but want to ride further North.

My plan is Thurs at Coed y Brenin and Friday at Llandegla - any better suggestions? Trail centres seems a good bet - I want maximum riding given not much time - but open to natural options.

Also I'm camping - so any suggestions about good places to stay near these venues would be great.

Cheers

S.

I love Llandegla and go once a week during the summer - but I would rather spend 2 days at CYB

2 days at CYB or a day there and then Penmacno and/or the Marin.(Nr Betws-Y-Coed)
Try the riverside campsite at Betws.

Right in the centre of the village, and 3 or 4 miles from each trail.

Thanks for the posts. I've checked out the Marin Trail on MBWales - looks good. I'll probably base myself at Betws - do the Marin Trail and then not too far for CYB the next day. Sorted I reckon.

As Ibbo says don't overlook Penmachno. Its 15 minutes drive from Betws and although its man made it feels natural and is very exposed in places.

Don't forget to carry a tyre boot!

    This place is nice

We've stayed there a few times although its worth noting that its a family orientated site. Dogs and kids are welcome but they are quite strict with regards to noise after 10pm.

Thanks for that - Penmachno sounds good too!

Choices, choices - I can see I'm gonna need another day off work!

Thanks for the campsite link Dirtydog11.

I wouldn`t bother with the Marin, loads of fire road albeit with an excellent final descent. If i were you i`d do Llandegla and Penmachno on the first day and CYB on day two.

If you do The Beast @ CYB there is a massive loop of fireroad, you can miss this out by carrying on the road climb and taking a right turn a bit further up which drops you onto Pugsley. If you`re feeling fit try doing The Beast in the morning and Tarw in the afternoon

+1 for Penmachno. I've done the Marin twice and realy enjoyed it, views are great but I agree with the fireroad comments. I did Penmachno a couple of weeks ago and thought it was fantastic. Both are worth doing but if it's a choice of one or t'other I'd go for Penmachno....both loops.

Strangely Im after the same info as Ive got a wedding to go to in Caernafon and looking at somewhere local to go on the day after . the wedding . Is Penmancho close riding distance from Betwys y Coed where im going to hire a back . Any other suggestions would be welcome though its needs to be within and hour of Caernafon.

Yes its within relatively easy riding distance of Betws (around 8 -9km). Take the A5 out of Betws heading towards Bro Garmin after about 4km take a right onto the B4406, Penmachno is about 4km down the road.

Have a look on Google maps.

    FYI

There's no cafe, so you will need to stock up on supplies in Betws and the first waypoint is marked 101 so don't waste your time looking for 01.

There are two loops marked 101, 102 etc for the fist loop and then 201, 202 etc for the second. Which explains why it starts at 101.

You can do loop 1 on its own or incorporate it with loop 2 which would give a total distance of around 30km.

thanks for the info , Ill have my car with bike rack so if im feeling lazy I can throw the hire biike on the roof. Ive heard Penmancho is better than Marin so will give it a go. kinda surprised at the lack of bike hire in Betws y Coed for such a outdoorsy type place.

There's Beics Betws as listed above.

There's also Lightspeed which is the proper mountain bike shop in Betws, they have loads of different bikes for hire.
