I want to go racing XC/enduro, whats a good HT or full suss?

I'm a full suss man thru and thru but need something to give me the edge as I want to race as much as I can this year. Not sure my Commencal meta 5.5.2 is the best tool for the job. My budget is £2k max, Was thinking of a Giant Anthem X2 or a Scott Spark. I don't reckon I need more than 100mm of travel. I've no idea about hardtails but I guess light is best and there seems to be a huge choice of HT's for £2k.
Any suggestions?
Doesn't matter what you got, just ride it hard !

Tbh you can't really beat the Scott Scales for XC racing. http://www.evanscycles.com/products/sco ... gn=froogle
I know someone who has one, really nice bikes!0 -
i would check out the cube ltd race.....well under budget and very light! plus you got plenty of money to sort out wheels and tyres for the job!Unlike my credit card im currently carrying a low level of interest- Peter Griffin

20lbs is pro race territory. 25lbs is not bad, but the budget will knock a few more off.

I tried one yesterday alonside the cube Reaction. The Reaction is far racier - geometry and weight (down to 10.1kg - still not ultra-light). It's what my LBS use who organise a few races.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

Was going to say, I wouldnt class my LTD race as light!0 -
hmmmm........im ashamed lol
if 10 kilos is what 25lb-ish than how much does my bike way?!
IIRC its 12.5kg so im guessing over 30lbs? damn.......
is it possible to build a hardtail that ways 23lb-ish for £1000?
sorry for going off topic a bit but im curious! (not bi-curious)Unlike my credit card im currently carrying a low level of interest- Peter Griffin

I have Cube Reaction as my race bike it is light and fast and very comfortable I have last years model which was very well specced.
With your budget you could get a Carbon Reaction if you are happy with Carbon.0 -

10 kilos is 22.2 lbs.
The LTD race does not weigh 10kg - it weighs 11.5kg which is just over 25lbs.0 -

Possibly, but probably 2nd hand parts for under the £1k mark0 -
Another possibility, though slightly over budget, is the Zaskar Carbon Pro:

Hi all, thanks for the advice. Had seen the spesh and sort of had the cube in the back of my mind but the marin is a surprise. My LBS is a Marin dealer and they do £25 weekend demos so will see if I can try one.
Seems to me that no matter what type of machine you're looking for Specialized always seem to have a bargain.
No one tried a Giant Anthem X2 ?? That was in my original top 5.
Still can't decide on the fundemental issue though........ Do I need a lightweight short travel full suss or could I live with a hard tail? Maybe I'll try the Marin HT on my usual trails and see how it feels.
Happy easter all ! 8)Doesn't matter what you got, just ride it hard !0
