My Roberts DB - top end steel hardtail :)

The frame is a mix of deda, columbus nivacrom and reynolds (631 and 753) tubing, with some harry rowland built 717 wheels and a reba fork bolted on, together with some bb7's and comfortable finishing kit. The colour is a little nasty - not my choice - I'll prob get a respray if it rides as well as I hope.

Its first proper outing will begin next friday with a little run from Lhasa up to Everest base camp :)

WOW! That really is the Dogs Boll0x.

What colour are you thinking? I really like it how it is.

    That's some "little run"!
    What brought that about then?

Yeah - it doesnt look so bad once its built up, but the frame by itself was very "party like its 1980 aquamarine". I need to swap the stem (the 3T is off my road bike), so i'll see how it looks after that.

@CwnT- I've done a fair bit of faraway cycling - himalayas, central asia and the middle east. I had a rockhopper previously which did the job, but always wanted a frame that could rust for some reason :)
  • Wow, everything about that bike is hyper-cool.

So talk us through the custom geometry. Why the lay-back Thomson rather than a longer frame? Why the v. low front end relative to seat position? Is it for racing?

    Keen to hear your story.

Ummm... pretty simple :) It was Roberts show-frame and I wanted one in a hurry, and this was close enough to wait I was after, so rather than wait for one to be built we did a deal and I took this one. I have a Roberts audax too, which was custom built for me, and I really rate his frames.

I'm pretty useless when it comes to technical stuff - I'm more about covering distance, so I like a fairly road-bike position, long and low

    Glad you like it :)

That certainly explains it. I used to have a mtb which was very similar in spirit, it's old school, I love it.

Really great looking bike. I wouldn't change the colour if i was you, it's different and really suits the bike.
