Hi guys,
Ive recently bought a MTB to get back into it. I live in Measham nr to Ashby de la zouch. Just wondering if there were any local riders on here and if anyone new of any places to ride XC/downhill in the local area? I know Cannock chase is relativley close but wondered if there was anywhere else possibly a little closer to home??

  • Hi Greddy,
I bought my first MTB late last summer (Spesh Rockhopper hardtail), and have been bitten by the mtb bug pretty hard. 2 or 3 of us ride out most sundays for around 20 miles whatever the weather, 65% trail/bridlepath/off road, 35% on road. Normally takes us around 2 1/2 hours. If you fancy joining us email me on hine51@btinternet.com. No mountains or DH, although there is the spoil heap at Polesworth, which you drive past on the M42 we have recently been off! Nearly forgot I live in Appleby - top of Birds Hill. I would say your bike is a great start. Would suggest SPD pedals. The tyres looks like the standard LK (low knob) spesh tyres, not great for when it gets really messy. We have been trying to put rides together for some time, but you have to link sections together. Cannock is good, and will be even beter when the Dog extension opens.
Good luck with the bike, the bike shop in Ashby is looking to become a Spesh dealer, Samways in Derby is a Spesh dealer. Cheers R.
Some of the gear, no idea.
  • Email sent mate-we'll have to get a few local lads together and sort a regular ride out. Find a few good routes etc
  • Hey, supposed to be some good trails in Whitwick woods. Try google for more info.

    Good luck
  • Oh yea, grace du woods or somethin right?
Might nip over at the weekend
  • Ticknall is worth a look. We also have a half decent evening ride around Heather/Newton Burgoland/Twycross. Ride over to Ticknall via conkers and come back using Featherbed Lane Ashby.

    Just found this.

I work in Measham and if you have found any local trails I am well up for an early morning ride. Just as soon as my bike has been built.

    Hi,
Just moved into area, I also am looking for some local trails. Just bought the national forest OS map, there are bridleways, however most in the area turn into footpaths. Does anyone have a good route with a some climbing some descents and not much on the road. Thanks in advance.
