OT: IT problem - canon printer

is it a tautology to label something in cake stop "OT"...?
anyway, my problem.....
having used a generic cartridge in my canon printer, it seems like the cannon hasn't reset itself, and the low ink warning stayed on. after very little use, the printer is now displaying an error message, and won't do anything.
i feel like i need to make the canon realise the cartridge is full, but don't know what to do.
Anyone had a similar problem?
Or, does anyone know any good discussion forums/boards, where I may find the IT gee.....er, I mean exoert....who can help?
Cheers, y'all.

I have the same problem with an old Epson. Some compatable cartridges are not as compatable as they should be and the printer won't recognise them.
You might have to buy a proper Cannon cartridge.0 -
Canon deliberately design their cartridges to prevent generic copies from working - there's a continual arms race between them and other printer manufacturers, who try to make their cartridges uncopiable, and the makers of the copies. There are probably copies out there that do work, but in my experience, cheap generic cartridges fail to work at all about 50% of the time, and Canon ones never work at all.0

Not when it stands for Obstructive Technology.0 -
Thanks guys - interesting.
I've never had a problem with generics before, and this one did work briefly. It;s as if the canon hasn't reset it's level, so it went from "low" to "totally empty - don't do a thing!" after just a few uses.0
