Hey
I am interested in getting a sub £400 (or as cheap as possible) road bike. Any ideas?

Carrera Virtuoso from Halfords for less than 300 notes leaving you enough to get a pump, bottle cages etc.

id pump your budget a smidge. I just got a 2009 specialised allez elite for sub £600 quid in showroom condition and very few miles.

it will become my winter bike although it may get more use than i think if this weather keeps up

Definately second hand, I got my Trek for £70 minus wheels, and I had it going for less than £200 :D Saying that, I've spend about an extra hundred or so on carbon and shiney red bits...
