    It is like cars.

A banger will get you there and last, never losing you money.

An Aston Martin will get you there quickly in style, and pamper you. It will cater for your needs on the way.

Assos is like a grand tourer - the best way to travel.

Some people seem so desparate to get Assos shorts that they will actually bid for used ones on Ebay. Can't think of anything worse than a used pad with a history of body fluids gas and diseases !

And most on ebay are at the point of being done for. Or years old.

I buy my Assos shorts new and tops second-hand

    I've tried several since starting:
Endura - Meryls - shocking: the leg openings weren't the same size and the chamois the size of a nappy but perversely incredibly uncomfortable. Left them on the counter at LBS
DHB - Bib Tights: sound but ruck behind my knees
    Bontrager - Shorts: fine
Assos - shorts and bib shorts: lovely - great attention to detail

I have an Assos gilet, Climajet jacket and S/S Jersey - all nearly new from eBay and all great. it's all really nicely designed and made.

As for the Assos Chamois cream (or Arsoleum as my wife calls it) - just fantastic.

    Buy cheap - Buy twice

I got a pair of Assos bibs toward the end of last year as a present and they are very nice. Quality is excellent and definitely as good as people say on here. Maybe I'm built for Assos as they fit like a glove and are extremely comfortable although given I'm a grower and not a shower then I find it a bit tricky whipping the old boy out to take a pi55 as the bibs ride quite high at the front.

Chamois wise I'm not unhappy but have still to *feel* the benefits as has been claimed. However I did get them late in the year and so have not ridden a full season with them. Thus the jury's still out on that one.

What I would say though is that they are extremely hard wearing. I came off for the first time ever when I was wearing them (typical  ) and I'm not sure if this was normal behaviour but when I got up I first checked my bike and then my Assos bibs for damage before making sure I hadn't broken anything. Surprisingly my bibs were absolutely unscathed yet when I finally checked myself I had one hell of a rash on my thigh.

I tried on the assos winter jacket in the sale at condor the other day - it was the most comfortable thing I have ever worn - it felt awesome. So snug & warm and the fit was clingy in such a nice way

Unfortunately the white & black checked finish was too spacey for the missus who vetoed the purhcase :(

nice. no. I just know when to fight and when to give. And to be honest I shared her view that the top was too shiny/spaceman for me. Incredibly comfortable and felt great on. But sadly I dont have the balls to wear it (part vanity / party not good enough cyclist/ partly not skinny enough). lovely top though.

Bought the rapha soft shell instead.....

I have the Rapha Winter jersey now. Clearly a different sort of jacket than the Airjack but with suitable layering just as good. And, clearly, a nicer "look" if looks are an issue.

I still have Assos bibs. Great they are. But the Gore Xenon ones feel as good. And I'm going to try the Castelli Free because they look absolutely lush.

I've given up on new bibs now and I'm going to try a better bike under my ass to see if that helps!

Also if Assos is so good why don't more pro teams use them ?

Err, Assos are so good that they don't need to sponsor teams to increase their sales. Why would assos waste their marketing budget sponsoring a team?
