9-10 days in Iceland

Looking to book a trip very shortly. I would really love to go longer, but can't spare the time and I'd read enough around it to want to go for sure.
First question: do the Icelanders do anything special for midsummer? (like the Scandanvians, Baltic countries). I've goggled thsi and drawn a blank, I'd like to be around for a booze up if there is one...
Other thing, my rough plan was to fly into Reykjavik and follow the Kjölur route across the Interior and fly back from Akureyri, fitting in a couple of days hanging around Reykjavik and a rest day somewhere. So that leaves 5-6 days on the bike. Is this feasible?
Also any suggestions on alternative itineries be welcome. I would really like to cross the Interior, but maybe I'm missing too much else in this space of time.
