Is this possible ? Is it ever done ? What does one need to watch out for ? This is for a SRAM Rival front mech.
Thanks

    Hi,

Down tube as in this picture: http://www.fatwheels.com/images/bikeframe.jpg

This is for a custom built cyclocross frame.

    Thanks

if you have a suitable cable stop then yes. if not then not really.

cables are usually on top of top tube on cyclecross frame.
this is to minimize dirt stuffing up the gears

if I was going to design a crossframe I would put cables inside top tube.
this so I wound't change the gears when lifting bike

Top tube routing requires a pulley behind the BB - all road f/mechs are bottom pull - the pulley is just a further collection point for mud so really defeats the purpose.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
