Russell Downing takes the morning 75km, with Albasini finishing second and Fedrigo third. I think that extends Fedrigo's lead by four seconds but still dont think he's got enough to win overall.

What great win for Russ Downing. It is great that this team exists as a platform for British riders to perform at the highest level from, despite the whinging there has been on here about them. Sky will win big at the classics.

I thought he could win that because the distance was the same type as he has ridden in the UK.
    Congratulations.

    But with foreign riders though.

Great win for Russ Downing though, it's great he's shown that his performances at the Tour of Ireland weren't a fluke.

It is good if sky are happy with the team. It means more Russ Downings will be coming up through the ranks. I don't care which foreign rider help that process. It's builds British cycling up and the team will be over half full of Brits in the future.

    Flecha's a Brit?

He sounds very Spanish, but then so did Andrew Sachs in Fawlty Towers.

Yup, this 'Flecha' thing is just an affectation. His real name is John Anthony Fletcher.

Edit: damn, beaten to the joke by mere seconds

Is he not an Argy though?

If he's an Argy then Wiggins is a Belgian.

Don't tell PauloBets that though, he'll be apoplectic.

It's good for Downing and I hope it sends a signal to others in the UK that the Premier Calendar is a decent competition but that there is (a better) life beyond this, if they can perform strongly in Britain then they should try their chances in Europe, there's nothing to fear.

Why do you only ever turn up in threads where Sky have won?

Millar wins 2 secs ahead of Contador.

Fedrigo take the overall. Really pleased for him. A big rider who has a lot of potential but previously had not very broad horizons...mostly just TdF stages.

Marion Clignet is working with Bbox now and she really wants for them to try and reach out and touch bigger achievements.
