I've decided to give the frame of my old BSO a repaint. But I have a couple of questions.

Is it OK to use a hot air gun to remove the paint or could the heat damage the frame.

Also will any old metal spray paint from a DIY store work.

I don't think a heat gun would remove the paint, lots of bike paints are stove-baked and pretty resistant to high temperatures. I'd use nitromors and a wire brush if it's a steel frame. Automotive spray paint is best (like Halfords, or ebay because it's way cheaper).

On this page is a guide I wrote on how to respray a bike yourself with spray-cans, and get very good results

Ignore the people that tell you it'll look rubbish. If you put the time in, it'll be as good as a professional respray. And I should know because I used to be a professional spray painter

    Any questions, just ask!

    Thanks.

Your guide sounds very much like the procedure they follow on American Hotrod when they're painting the cars. Guess spraying one type of transport is like spraying another :D
