Does anyone know just how far you can get from Kingston towards Maidenhead cycling beside (or in very close proximity to) the Thames River. Any advice or experience gained would be useful. It appears that the Thames Path is "not a long distance cyclepath" to quote the sinecured 'Thou Shalt Nots' at the National Trail website. Does anyone know just how far up from Kingston can I get.

Many thanks in advance.

  • Part of the towpath from Windsor to Maidenhead is cyclable legally. Past Maidenhead a number of large new No Cycling signs have sprung up, probably to coincide with the improvement of the towpath surface which would make it an ideal cycle trail :)

From Datchet to Maidenhead the Thames flood relief channel, poetically named the Jubilee River, has a nice cyclepath alongside it.

I did the stretch from Winsor to Puntney weekend b4 last. Bit's of it are cyclable, bits of it aren't. iirc after Shepperton Lock (where you take a ferry across, runs every 15mins) it's all cyclable. It's not biggie that you can't follow it the whole way, the river is in sight or close by most of the time and just makes it a bit more interesting trying to follow it.
