To get straight to the issue - I had a rather, ahem, painful experience on my bike last week...

I am currently in training for the sportive season and I've NEVER had issues in this regard before. The training programme I am using recommended staying in my seat for the whole ride, even on hills. I did so and I believe that this was a catalyst to my perenium pain... :(

I haven't been able to ride this week for fear of making the situation worse but rode the 8 miles to my LBS this morning with little to no adverse affect. They have put a Specialized BG Alias saddle on to sample for a few days and its way too early to say whether its any better or not.

I've heard about the Adamo saddles - anyone got any comments on these?

I realise that saddles are a hugely subjective and controversial topic and yet are there any universal 'truths' that I am as yet unaware of?

Given the degree of pain I experienced last week and the central value of a saddle to a good ride I am not that bothered by how much I have to spend (having said which, I don't want to spend just for the sake of it!)

Any advide that anyone can give will be HUGELY appreciated...

(My LBS is very Spesh-orientated and so has a full range of their stuff - comments in this regard will therefore be particularly valuable...

what kind of training programme makes you stay seated for an entire ride..? it's not natural.

assuming you were ok before you started following this programme, ditch it....

I'm currently using an alias saddle, the cut out prevents any numbness or perineum pain and shifts most of your weight to yous sit bones, might be worth sticking with it for a while. You probably have done but make sure the saddle is dead level.

The specialised BG saddle is the best saddle in the world ( well I like them). It looks wide and naff but so what , I've done 200 + mile rides on them and walked the following day  . BUT why stay seated all day? if you need to stand up, stand up. Give the bum a rest.

I encountered problems whilst using Fizik Ariones.
The guy at my LBS lent me a BG Toupe Team. Had it for a couple of weeks... Excellent saddle.
I bought a Toupe Team for the Summer bike, and a BG Phenom (same saddle with slightly more padding) for the Winter bike.
I doubt I'll ever try another make...
